Colder weather is approaching so you know what that means? Preparing to close your pool for the season. Winterizing your pool can save you a lot of time, aggravation, and money when you go to open your pool in the spring. Avoiding opening your pool and seeing it dirty is a very appealing offer. It could take weeks of treatment and the effort of finding the right chemicals to get the pool back into a condition that’s suitable for swimming. Our closing kits along with this blog and video will help guide you to winterize your pool the right way!
Make sure that your pools pH and alkalinity levels are both stabilized before you begin the winterizing process
Drain pool water (The amount of water you drain from your pool will be dependent on the climate you live in. The warmer the weather, the less it will need to be drained. However, no matter where you live, your pool should never be emptied and the water should always be drained at least 4-6 inches below the skimmer mouth.)
Blow out and plug up the pipes (If you take away anything from this blog it should be to completely blow out your pipes. Failing to do so, will allow the water to freeze inside the pipes, which will do some pretty costly damage. This is definitely something you and your wallet will never want to deal with.)
Fill the bucket ¾ of the way up with water
Grab the bag of shock from your kit and carefully cut it open
Slowly pour the shock into the bucket as you’re simultaneously stirring the water
Once completely dissolved, strategically poor around in your pool to help disperse the chemical
Slosh around the water to make sure the chemical is distributed evenly throughout your pool
Wait 15-20 minutes
Repeat steps 5-9 with algaecide
Wait 15-20
Repeat steps 5-9 with pH stabilizer
Since winterizing your pool will require the use of chemicals, it’s important to exercise complete caution. To help avoid any mishaps, when you’re mixing chemicals into the bucket, make sure that you're pouring the chemicals into the water and never the water on top of the chemical. After watching our video and following the provided steps, you should be good to go. when you open your pool in the spring. Just remember, in order to open your pool clean, it must be closed clean!
